With Riverssance, the 2009 season for the House Of Sydney and Iowa Tudor Guard comes to a close.
Riverssance was overall a great experience, with the only real problems caused by a mix of the poor weather/mud and some scheduling errors. But even with the weather, I was very impressed by how many patrons still attended, and I hope the festival was successful enough to continue for another year!
The Iowa Tudor Guard was proud to wear our excellent new uniforms at Riverssance. The House of Sydney's own "Sewing C's" worked all spring and summer on these uniforms, and I couldn't be happier with the results. I think we were photographed more this year than the last three combined! There are still a few touches we weren't able to get finished (such as the embroidered badges), but rest assured, they will be ready for the 2010 season!

I would also like to extend gratitude to King James of Scotland for playing with us for the patrons on Sunday afternoon. If anyone performing a festival with the House of Sydney and/or the Iowa Tudor Guard wants to use us for any audience-related events, just tell me and I will make it happen! This time around, His Majesty asked us to arrest a young woman who had attempted to capture his soul with a magic picture-box, and this young woman's mother asked that she be placed in the stocks as her punishment. By the time we had her singing for her freedom, a huge crowd of patrons and performers had gathered. As guards, we absolutely LOVE playing with the crowd like this. So use us anytime!
His Grace, the Lord Protector William Sydney, also had a chance to show off his beautiful new suit at Riverssance. Expect more photos to follow this weekend, as well as updates to both the House of Sydney and the Iowa Tudor Guard websites.
Thank you everyone for a great year!
In protection,
Captain Sir Thomas Devereux, KG, Lord Chartley
